1st Annual Carolina Riders Round-Up 2006, Young Harris GA

The First Annual Carolina Riders Round-up was held in Young Harris, GA. We rode the Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap (Friday), the Cherohala Skyway (Saturday) and enjoyed the beautiful mountain scenery as well as many other local attractions. Thanks to all for coming!
Gas Stop needed. Jon and Leon didn't fill up in Aiken. They had to stop by the Honda dealer for a quick side mirror replacement instead.
Does Leon own stock in Wendy's? If not, he should!
Everyone checks their voicemail during a stop.
The Aiken group arrives at the Young Harris Motel.
Friday Afternoon we're heading for the Tail of the Dragon (US 129)
Ron's new car ran the Gap with power, style and class! Hold on to your seat!
This is a Daisy. My favorite flower. They grow beside the road at the Dragon. Other more exotic species live here too!
This is a Lotus (not a flower)! Photographed here in a natural habitat. Toyota powered! SWEET!
Terry tames the Dragon.
Leon says he's #1. Overcast skies cause low light making the gap photos show lots of motion blur.
Barb on the Dragon. Doesn't she look fast!
Dodie on the Dragon.
Saturday: The local weather forecast called for 90% chance of rain, so we headed to Helen for some indoor sight seeing and shopping. But the sun kept shinning....
Our own version of "Where's Waldo"...Can you spot Leon?
Alpine Village, Helen GA.
an Elongated Penny machine made for some unique souvenirs. ($0.51 cost)
I've heard of brass balls and blue balls, but this is a first!!
He's got a little Captain in him (Capt Morgan's Rum slogan & pose)
Don't ask me what it is.....but it was one of a kind.
Ready for the road after a quick lunch stop in Robbinsville.
The mountain views were breathtaking.
Dodie at Hooper Cove. Say Cheese!!
The Saturday weather forecast wasn't great, but the morning had been beautiful, so we took to the Cherohala Skyway, stopping here for a group picture.
The next moment it looked like this. Amazing how quickly the weather can change in the mountains! Thank goodness for frog toggs!
Mark lead the "spirited" group ride in the afternoon.
All smiles after a damp trip across the Cherohala Skyway.
Saturday nights storms included Hail the size of green peas. Leon's Fat Girl found shelter from the storm near the ice machine. Those without covers moved their bikes onto the sidewalk, under the building overhang. Thank goodness we had made an "adult beverage" run before dinner!
Triump Tiger Demo rides! Bill says if you buy a $10,000 hat, you get the bike for free!
Saturday Evening Dinner was wonderful. Bill made several motions, all were supported by the group! (This is the before photo)
Leon pulls out his camera.
Ron preserves the moment.
Jesse sees a photo opportunity
Jim capturing a kodak moment.
and Barb taking a photo.
The call of a twistie road may be what brought us together......
But the friendship and fellowship is what keeps us together! See Y'all soon! (Note: this is the "after" dinner pic)
